While in the DC Universe Earth may be known as the location where four individual Green Lanterns team up to protect space sector 2814, DC Comics is becoming the place where the creative staff of the incoming “Green Lantern” film are teaming up to tell a number of new sci fi stories.

The publisher announced today via its The Source blog that in May it will release five prequel one-shots to June’s “Green Lantern” feature film. The comics will see a simultaneous day-and-date release in comic shops and through DC’s digital comics app for $2.99, and each will be written by a confab of film producers, screenwriters and DC comics talent. As dedicated fans of the superhero may recall, Berlanti, Guggenheim and Green penned the initial draft of the “Green Lantern” screenplay while Goldenberg delivered the final version. De Line is one of the films producers, and, of course, Johns, Tomasi and Schlagman have all been heavily involved with the Green Lantern corner of the DCU for years.
